Troop 41 is planning on going to Scout Day at Six Flags Great America on Saturday July 15, 2017. A fun-filled visit to an amusement park also meets some of the STEM requirements of the NOVA Whoosh! Award to learn about simple machines. Where else can you have fun and learn about physics and engineering while feeling the G-force of dangling in a shoulder harness propelled by angular momentum and pinned to your seat by centrifugal force?

While some Scouts are visiting Great America on Scout Day 7-15-17, you can also take your Scout to a carnival (like the Sugar Grove Corn Boil) or a neighborhood park that has a variety of playground equipment.
Before your Scout goes to either Great America or the playground, please ask him to watch the following 3 videos. The videos will help him to understand "Simple Machines" and "Forces of Energy".
"Simple Machines for Kids: Science and Engineering for Children - FreeSchool"
"Simple Machines with Bill Nye the Science Guy"
"Kids Learn the Physics Behind the Fun Carnival Rides"
