Sometimes life takes us off the beaten path, and that’s exactly what we did on our hike at White Pines campground!
We blazed our own trail, and didn’t turn back when we ran into a few thorn bushes, albeit with a few grumbles and complaints. Eventually, we found a shortcut near some railroad tracks, at which point it started to rain. As you know, the scout motto is “be prepared”, which most of us were, with our rain jackets.
Once we arrived on the right path, we found a roofed lookout where we could see down the cliff and observe the little river at the bottom. After we left the lookout, we were heading back to the campsite where we had to go down some very slick rock steps, which a few people slipped on. We then crossed the river using a wooden bridge. A little further down we thought we had to cross a fjord, but luckily we found another wooden bridge.
Since it was still raining, we sat under a shelter, and dried our jackets and played a game. After we finished our “which animal do you want to bring” game, we put our jackets back on, and walked back to our campsite, and started working on lunch.
Let this be a lesson to everyone, if life has yanked you off the beaten path, just keep going and persevering.
