9-10-19 Potawatomi Indians Special Presentation

Did you ever wonder why our Council is called “Three Fires”? Did you ever wonder where the Order of the Arrow traditions like the “Ordeal” came from? Did you know that Maramech Hill District is being consolidated and will become Potawatomi District?

Clif Frantz is a Historic Re-enactor for the Potawatomi Indians. He is a former Troop 41 Scout from the 1950s and son of Grof Frantz who helped start Troop 41 in 1949. His presentation will help the Scouts make a connection to their history that was inspired by Native Americans.

The name "Three Fires Council" came from the three Native American Tribes who participated in the "Council of Three Fires". These tribes included the Ottawa, Chippewa and Potawatomi Indians. The Potawatomi who were known as "The Keepers of the Fire". Three Fires Council will be consolidating its districts into 3 districts named after each one of these Tribes. Instead of the Maramech Hill District, our Troop will be under the Potawatomi District.

The Order of the Arrow "Ordeal" is symbolic of the trial that Braves in the Potawatomi Tribes had to endure before becoming Warriors.
